Went for a recovery ride using the PowerCranks (PCs) – HA! – there’s no such thing. It was calm at my house when I left for today’s ride. FOX@10:05: 52deg; calm. My legs were definitely tired at the start of today’s ride. I just tried to maintain pedaling form using the PCs. I didn’t bother trying the “usual 2-mile interval” because my legs were too tired. The wind suddenly picked up west of 70W. The wind was still calm when I was on the bike path just west of 72W. However, looking ahead, I could see tumbleweeds blowing across Ave L starting about 1/2 mile up the road. Sure enough, that’s where I hit the wind wall. The wind got progressively stronger as the ride progressed. I saw my good friend Eric “Red Rooster” Wilson again – this time coming the other way on 110W. We stopped again to chat for a few minutes. Eric picked up his new Vendetta recumbent yesterday. He was pretty excited about it. He said it’s going to take some time to get used to riding it. I can’t wait to see it. From Ave L & 80W, tumbleweeds were blowing across the road for most of the rest of the ride. I was watching the tumbleweeds as they were blowing across the desert. I did have a nice tailwind riding east on G and felt stronger. My power was up which confirmed it. By the time I got to 30W, the air quality had deteriorated – lots of dirt in the air. I could see little dust storms starting to the east and NE. FOX@11:56: 72deg; W26G33.
02/02/20: March of the giant tumbleweeds! Good thing I got out for a ride when I did.
